(NaturalNews) The United States government has just crossed the threshold of nutritional insanity with an announcement that postmenopausal women should avoid taking vitamin D. This announcement, made by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, is tantamount to declaring war on nutrition. In a nation where 90+ percent of the population is chronically deficient in vitamin D, any government edict that encourages people to avoid this lifesaving vitamin will only result in more cancer, more Alzheimer's disease, more bone fractures, more diabetes and more kidney disease.

... which is, of course, exactly what the medical establishment wants. After all, how are the drug companies supposed to make money treating patients with cancer if they prevent cancer themselves by using dirt-cheap vitamin D?

The mainstream media, predictably, has dutifully followed the government's anti-nutrition advice by distorting the conclusions of the study and running headlines like this one in USA Today, the corporate-run disinfo outlet:

The authors of this article, Janice Lloyd, Liz Szabo and Nanci Hellmich, should be renamed the Three Stooges of Mainstream Journalism for their absurdly inaccurate headline. For starters, the study covered in the article only mentions that postmenopausal women shouldn't take low-doses of vitamin D combined with calcium. According to the U.S. government a "low dose" is something around 200 IUs daily -- a virtually useless quantity of vitamin D. Most nutritionists recommend 4,000 IUs daily or even more.

So what the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force really determined is that taking a ridiculously low dose of vitamin D isn't very helpful to your health. The logical conclusion from this is that people should take HIGHER doses of vitamin D which have, through hundreds of studies, been shows to help prevent cancer, increase bone mineral density, prevent kidney disease and so on.

So the accurate headline in USA Today, if the paper actually were interested in educating and informing readers about nutrition, would be, "Postmenopausal women need higher doses of vitamin D." But instead, the headline read, "Don't take vitamin D, calcium."

It's yet another example of not just inaccurate reporting, but irresponsible reporting that puts people's lives at risk. If Vitamin D had a lawyer, it would sue USA Today for defamation. With this kind of reporting from one of the nation's most widely-circulated papers, it's no wonder the population remains nutritionally illiterate and suffering from runaway degenerative disease.

The real agenda: Criminalize nutrition

The real agenda in all this, however, is not just an assault on nutrition and a push to keep the American people malnourished and riddled with cancer. The real purpose of this so-called "task force" announcement is to set the stage for BANNING vitamin D.

Now wait a minute, you say. The government couldn't ban vitamin D, that would be ridiculous.

But then I point out that for decades, the FDA banned stevia, the herbal sweetener. It actually raided stevia importation companies, seized stevia inventory, and even ordered the destruction of recipe books advocating stevia as a replacement for sugar.

The FDA has a long history of criminalizing nutrients and natural medicines. The agency famously criminalized the Chinese Medicine herb ephedra, and over the last three years the FDA has been the force behind the raw milk raids that have taken place in California, Wisconsin and elsewhere.

Before banning something, however, that thing must first be shown to be dangerous. It's a problem-reaction-solution setup, where the government establishes the false paradigm of the problem -- "vitamin D harms you" -- then they rush in with their desired solution: Ban vitamin D!

Why ban vitamin D supplements?

Vitamin D is the single most important nutrient preventing disease in America today. And why? Because most people live indoors. They work indoors, they go to the gym indoors, they stay at home indoors... they get virtually no sunlight, and as a result, Americans are chronically deficient in vitamin D.

There are receptor sites for vitamin D in virtually every organ in the body. The brain, the kidneys, the liver, the intestines, the heart... they all need vitamin D to function correctly. Without vitamin D in the body, lots of lucrative, high-profit diseases start to appear:

• Kidney disorders
• Osteoporosis
• Arthritis
• Depression
• Obesity
• Diabetes
• Immune disorders
• Neuromuscular disorders
• Metabolic disorders

These diseases, in turn, translate into a windfall of profits for Big Pharma, which is of course the corporate master served by the FDA itself. Thus, outlawing vitamin D would mean a massive wave of new profits for the drug industry, which is facing financial collapse due to the cascading collapse of governments around the world that buy Big Pharma's drugs (Greece, Spain, and soon the USA).

Only the uninformed, naive masses do not believe that corporations would conspire to keep people sick in order to make billions in profits. Criminalizing vitamin D would mean a windfall of new profits for the criminal drug industry. So watch for new attacks on this vitamin in the weeks and months ahead. The medical cartel is attempting to outlaw nutrition and censor free speech about nutrients. The government, the media and the drug companies are all conspiring to keep you sick, make sure you die before you collect social security, and deny you access to accurate information about nutritional cures for cancer, among other things.

Gas Bubbles in the Bayou Corne/Grand Bayou Areas

Bubbling has been noticed in the water in the Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou areas. Parish officials have determined that this bubbling is caused by a release of natural gas and not “swamp gas”.

The origin of the gas is presently unknown. Potential causes could perhaps be a pipeline leak or a potential leak from an adjacent storage cavern. Presently, it has not been established that this gas is a residual gas leak from the Gulf South incident of 2003-2004.

Government officials including the LA Department of Natural Resources, LA State Police, LA Department of Environmental Quality, Assumption Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, and the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office are continuously working with local industry to determine the origin of the leak. The immediate task at hand is to isolate the problem so that repair and mitigation can commence to resolve the problem.

Daily readings are being taken and recorded from all known bubbling locations for ignition risk. At present time, no readings have suggested any ignition risk; therefore, all waterways remain open to boat traffic. If readings change, waterways may be closed for a period of time.

Mysterious bubbles in Bayou Corne

WAFB/Mysterious bubbles are rising up out of an Assumption Parish bayou. Officials are trying to figure what's causing them.
Take a ride down Bayou Corne, and there are bubbles of all sizes along the waterway.
"We have reported on May 30th a pipeline leak, which started us coming out and investigating a bubbling in Bayou Corne," said Assumption Parish Homeland Security Director John Boudreaux.
Since then though, pipeline officials have not ruled that out just yet, but said it's unlikely. So now, investigators are going through the process of elimination.
By coincidence, since the bubbling began, many in Assumption Parish are worried
"Our houses shifting and cracks in our sheet rock and our foundation," said Jason Hugh.
"My home moved, and my home shook. My home moved, and I'm on cement," said Debra Charlet.
Officials don't know yet whether the two are related. Boudreaux has taken samples of the bubbles and sent them off for testing. Those samples are expected back in the next couple of weeks.
Officials are monitoring the bubbles twice a day. As for now, no evacuations have been issued and the waterways remain open.

The news-magazine, which hits stands today, is using the shock factor of labeling the straight, married, father-of-two President to draw attention to itself.
Tina Brown, who edits the magazine and its sister website The Daily Beast, is known for her love of controversial covers to help boost public interest and sales.

Newsweek released their cover early, likely hoping to drum up attention for their next issue and their same-sex marriage coverage

After Time magazine went with a cover shot of a young blonde mother breastfeeding her 3-year-old boy, Ms Brown is said to have taken it in stride, saying 'let the games begin!'
The article accompanying the cover was written by the news magazine's regular blogger, Andrew Sullivan, who is an openly gay self-titled conservative political pundit.

'When you step back a little and assess the record of Obama on gay rights, you see, in fact, that this was not an aberration. It was an inevitable culmination of three years of work,' Mr Sullivan said in a statement about the article.
'He had to discover his black identity and then reconcile it with his white family, just as gays discover their homosexual identity and then have to reconcile it with their heterosexual family,' he wrote, describing the similarities between Mr Obama and the gay community.

'It’s easy to write off President Obama’s announcement of his support for gay marriage as a political ploy during an election year. But don’t believe the cynics,' representatives from the news magazine told Politico in a statement about the article.
President Obama's announcement came several days after Vice President Joe Biden said that he was 'absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women and men and women marrying are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties.'

'Would I have preferred to have done this in my own way, in my own terms, without I think, there being a lot of notice to everybody? Sure,' Mr Obama said in the ABC interview. 'But all's well that ends well.'
On the day of the President's interview, Mr Biden is said to have had a private meeting in the Oval Office in which he apologised for his overstep.
Republicans, the majority of whom are against gay marriage, said that Mr Obama simply made his historic announcement in an effort to gain support among liberal voters in the lead up to the general election.
'While President Obama has played politics on this issue, the Republican Party and our presumptive nominee Mitt Romney have been clear,' Republican national committee chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement.
'We support maintaining marriage between one man and one woman and would oppose any attempts to change that.'
Mr Romney re-affirmed his opposition to gay marriage in a speech to graduates of evangelical Liberty University in Virginia last week.
He described marriage as an 'enduring institution' and said that it should be 'a relationship between one man and one woman'.

'The president recently weighed in on marriage and you know he said his views were evolving on marriage,' Senator Paul said.
'Call me cynical, but I wasn’t sure his views on marriage could get any gayer.'
His comments came just two days after President Barack Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage, which he had previously opposed.
Senator Paul's 'joke' received more than a few chuckles from his chosen audience so he continued on his course of blasting the president.
'He said the biblical golden rule caused him to be for gay marriage,' Paul said.
'I'm like, what version of the Bible is he reading?'
Senator Paul repeatedly used the word 'sin' in reference to the topic.
'We understand sin and we understand that people sin,' he said.
He argued that it one doesn't have to resort to 'hateful dogma' to preserve 'traditions.'
'Beyond religion, there's stability in the family unit,' he said. 'We shouldn't just give up on it.'
He used the opportunity to claim that the country was in the midst of a 'spiritual crisis' and that the nation required 'leaders beyond your political leaders'.

Maryland's governor also gave state workers wide leeway for staying out of the office. "It was less traffic," said D.C. resident Rob Lavender, who commuted to Arlington County from the district. "It's more hectic on a regular day." There were scattered stoplight outages and some transit delays for Maryland commuters headed into Washington. "It was a mess," said Jason Lynch, a 23-year-old Energy Department software developer. He counted at least three malfunctioning stoplights during his two-mile bus ride from Colesville to the Glenmont stop on Washington's Metro subway system. "The light coming out of my neighborhood was blinking red, and it was blinking yellow for the main direction of traffic," he said. "People would still get confused. (AP)Millions of people in a swath of states along the East Coast and farther west went into a third sweltering day without power Monday after a round of summer storms that killed more than a dozen people.

The outages left many to contend with stifling homes and spoiled food over the weekend as temperatures approached or exceeded 100 degrees.

Around 2 million customers from North Carolina to New Jersey and as far west as Illinois were without power Monday morning. And utility officials said the power would likely be out for several more days. Since Friday, severe weather has been blamed for at least 22 deaths, most from trees falling on homes and cars.

The power outages had prompted concerns of traffic problems as commuters took to roads with darkened stoplights. But throughout northern Virginia, there was less traffic than normal in many places Monday as federal workers took advantage of liberal leave that was put in place for the day.

To alleviate traffic congestion around Baltimore and Washington, federal and state officials gave many workers the option of staying home Monday. Maryland's governor also gave state workers wide leeway for staying out of the office.

"It was less traffic," said D.C. resident Rob Lavender, who commuted to Arlington County from the district. "It's more hectic on a regular day."
There were scattered stoplight outages and some transit delays for Maryland commuters headed into Washington.
"It was a mess," said Jason Lynch, a 23-year-old Energy Department software developer.
He counted at least three malfunctioning stoplights during his two-mile bus ride from Colesville to the Glenmont stop on Washington's Metro subway system.
"The light coming out of my neighborhood was blinking red, and it was blinking yellow for the main direction of traffic," he said. "People would still get confused. At the yellow light, they would stop and let people at the red light go, and the people behind them would honk at them."
There were more than 400 signal outages in Maryland on Monday, including more than 330 in hard-hit Montgomery County outside the nation's capital, according to the State Highway Administration. There were 100 signal outages in northern Virginia late Sunday afternoon, and 65 roads were closed, although most were secondary roads.
"If you have to drive or need to drive, leave yourself a lot of extra time," Maryland State Highway Administration spokesman Charlie Gischlar said. "There's going to be delays."
Some drivers resorted to ingenuity to get to work. On a residential street in suburban Falls Church, Va., just outside Washington, downed trees blocked the road on either side. Neighbors used chain saws to cut a makeshift path on one side, but the other remained completely blocked by a massive oak tree.
"They kind of forgot about us out here," resident Eric Nesson said.
Still, residents took the aggravation with good humor. Posted on the oak tree was a sign saying: "Free firewood you haul." The tree lay across a smashed Ford pickup truck, with a sign reading: "For SALE. Recently lowered."
On Sunday night in North Carolina, a 77-year-old man was killed when strong winds collapsed a Pitt County barn where he was parking an all-terrain vehicle, authorities said. In neighboring Beaufort County, a couple was killed when a tree fell on the golf cart they were driving. Officials said trees fell onto dozens of houses, and two hangars were destroyed at an airport in Beaufort County.
The damage was mostly blamed on straight-line winds, which are strong gusts pushed ahead of fast-moving thunderstorms like a wall of wind.
Elsewhere, at least 10 of the dead were killed in Virginia, including a 90-year-old woman asleep in her bed when a tree slammed into her home. Two young cousins in New Jersey were killed when a tree fell on their tent while camping. Two were killed in Maryland, one in Ohio, one in Kentucky and one in Washington.
In West Virginia, authorities said one person died early Sunday when the all-terrain vehicle they were riding hit a tree that had fallen over a road.
For survivors, it was a challenge to stay cool over the weekend.
From Atlanta to Baltimore, temperatures approached or exceeded triple digits. Atlanta set a record with a high of 105 degrees, while the temperature hit 99 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport just outside the nation's capital. With no air conditioning, officials urged residents to check on their elderly relatives and neighbors. It was tough to find a free pump at gas stations that did have power, and lines of cars snaked around fast-food drive-thrus.
Power crews from as far away as Florida and Oklahoma were on their way to the mid-Atlantic region to help get the power back on and the air conditioners running again. Even if people have generators, the gas-run devices often don't have enough power to operate an air conditioner.

And power restoration was spotty: Several people interviewed by The Associated Press said they remained without power even though the lights were on at neighbors' homes across the street. In Maryland, Gov. O'Malley promised he would push utility companies to get electricity restored as quickly as possible.

"No one will have his boot further up Pepco's and BGE's backsides than I will," O'Malley said Sunday afternoon, referring to the two main utilities serving Maryland.

SHTFplan/We’ve seen it time and again over the last decade. An emergency strikes and panic grips the city or region for days or weeks on end.
We saw a complete breakdown of emergency response and law & order during Hurricane Katrina. The 2011 Snowpocalypse on the east coast led to runs on grocery stores and empty shelves within a matter of hours. Widespread blackouts during Hurricane Ike left large sections of the Houston power grid down for up to four weeks. In all these cases gas was almost impossible to find, what was in your pantry was what you had until food distribution resumed, local water was not safe for consumption, and government response was limited to reinstating essential services first and foremost.
The bottom line, as Jesselyn Radack of the Government Accountability Project notes, is that after billions have been spent by Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and local law enforcement, we are no more prepared today than we were the day before September 11, 2011.

After a short but unusually severe thunderstorm that roared through the D.C. area on Friday night, the entire Washington Metropolitan Area was thrown into chaos.
Three days later, countless traffic lights are still out, hundreds of thousands of residents are without power, including myself, grocery stores and gas station are closed for lack of power, and the federal government is encouraging employees to telework.

Is this the work of a terrible terrorist attack? No, it is the complete disaster non-preparedness a decade after 9/11. Despite the fact that billions if not trillions have been spent since 9/11 on counter-terrorism and so-called “homeland security” measures, one of the major terrorist targets, the nation’s capital, cannot cope with a severe thunderstorm.

I received a message from PEPCO that most D.C.-area residents may not have power until next Friday at 11:00 pm – a full week after the storm hit. With temperatures this week set for the mid to upper-90s, that is a long time for residents to be with air conditioning, or fans, or refrigerators.
Two years ago, the Washington Post’s comprehensive examination of the billions of taxpayer dollars spent on “homeland security,” “Top Secret America” reflected that the D.C. metropolitan area was burgeoning with infrastructure, though apparently none of it focused on keeping the D.C.-area up and running after a severe thunderstorm.

I am not the only D.C. taxpayer wondering, where are billions in “critical infrastructure” protection and “homeland security?” They are not going toward obvious solutions like putting power lines underground.
The D.C. area’s responsiveness to unexpected events has not improved, but taxpayers’ pockets have been drained to create an entire secret city of “national security” in northern Virginia. Making sure citizens have food and power in an emergency should be a top priority, not a distant second to security theater like taking our shoes off before getting on an airplane.

Once again we are provided with ample evidence that not only is the government ill-prepared to handle a large scale city-wide emergency, but the residents of this nation are completely oblivious to the fact that if the shit hits the fan, no one will be there to provide assistance.
When Houston was hit almost head on by Hurricane Ike in 2008 the residents of the entire metropolitan area were shocked. Never mind the mass chaos as millions tried to flee the region, with drives to neighboring cities taking upwards of ten times longer than they normally would. Power for 90% of the city went out, and for some areas, including where we lived, power was not restored for almost a month. Suffice it to say our community was anxiety ridden, frustrated and tempers were flaring. When gas became wholly unavailable and the generators stopped running and we were overtaken with near 100 degree heat during the day, the situation for many became untenable.
FEMA’s own web site calls on Americans to have a two week supply of emergency items, yet most citizens have only a three day supply of reserve food available – whatever’s in the kitchen when disaster strikes is what they’ve got until things get back to normal.
Even after these recommendations from the very people who are tasked with responding to emergency and disaster situations, not a single resident in our community that we were aware of had emergency supplies on hand when Ike hit – even though many had gone through countless hurricanes before and knew what to expect.
After Katrina, Ike, the various earthquakes, wildfires, snow storms, “Derechos,”  power outages, and tens of billions in taxpayer funds supposedly appropriated into infrastructure, security and emergency response, it’s simply incredible that we are so unprepared as a society.
Imagine, for a moment, what happens in a scenario that affects not a single city, but an entire multi-state region, or, perhaps the entire nation. And imagine that the event(s) is so widespread that government is totally overwhelmed – food transportation stops, refineries can’t get gas to local areas, water and power utility workers stay home to care for their families, law enforcement is faced with widespread looting, the internet becomes inaccessible as do all avenues of communication due to blackouts, and grocery store shelves remain out of stock for weeks or months.
Such a scenario may be unlikely, but certainly possible – and the resulting effects on the population and our way of life would be nothing short of complete and utter pandemonium, especially for those who have failed to prepare.

(hrw.org/ Former detainees and defectors have identified the locations, agencies responsible, torture methods used, and, in many cases, the commanders in charge of 27 detention facilities run by Syrian intelligence agencies, Human Rights Watch said in a multimedia report released today. The systematic patterns of ill-treatment and torture that Human Rights Watch documented clearly point to a state policy of torture and ill-treatment and therefore constitute a crime against humanity.

The 81-page report, “Torture Archipelago: Arbitrary Arrests, Torture and Enforced Disappearances in Syria’s Underground Prisons since March 2011” is based on more than 200 interviews conducted by Human Rights Watch since the beginning of anti-government demonstrations in Syria in March 2011. The report includes maps locating the detention facilities, video accounts from former detainees, and sketches of torture techniques described by numerous people who witnessed or experienced torture in these facilities.

“The intelligence agencies are running an archipelago of torture centers scattered across the country,” said Ole Solvang, emergencies researcher at Human Rights Watch. “By publishing their locations, describing the torture methods, and identifying those in charge we are putting those responsible on notice that they will have to answer for these horrific crimes.”

Human Rights Watch called on the United Nations Security Council to refer the situation in Syria to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and to adopt targeted sanctions against officials credibly implicated in the abuses.

The facilities cited in the report are those for which multiple witnesses have indicated the same location and provided detailed descriptions of torture. The actual number of detention facilities used by intelligence agencies is probably much higher.

Almost all the former detainees interviewed by Human Rights Watch said they had been subjected to torture or witnessed the torture of others during their detention. Interrogators, guards, and officers used a broad range of torture methods, including prolonged beatings, often with objects such as batons and cables, holding the detainees in painful stress positions for prolonged periods of time, the use of electricity, burning with acid, sexual assault and humiliation, the pulling of fingernails, and mock execution. Altogether Human Rights Watch documented more than 20 distinct torture methods used by the security and intelligence services.

In most cases former detainees were subjected to a range of these torture methods. A 31-year-old detainee who was detained in Idlib governorate in June described to Human Rights Watch how the intelligence agencies tortured him in the Idlib Central Prison:

They forced me to undress. Then they started squeezing my fingers with pliers. They put staples in my fingers, chest and ears. I was only allowed to take them out if I spoke. The staples in the ears were the most painful. They used two wires hooked up to a car battery to give me electric shocks. They used electric stun-guns on my genitals twice. I thought I would never see my family again. They tortured me like this three times over three days.

While most of the torture victims interviewed by Human Rights Watch were young men between 18 and 35, the victims interviewed also included children, women, and the elderly.

Human Rights Watch research shows that the worst torture has taken place in detention facilities run by the country’s four main intelligence agencies, commonly referred to collectively as the mukhabarat:

• The Department of Military Intelligence (Shu`bat al-Mukhabarat al-`Askariyya);
• The Political Security Directorate (Idarat al-Amn al-Siyasi);
• The General Intelligence Directorate (Idarat al-Mukhabarat al-`Amma); and
• The Air Force Intelligence Directorate (Idarat al-Mukhabarat al-Jawiyya).

Each of these four agencies maintains central branches in Damascus as well as regional, city, and local branches across the country. In virtually all of these branches there are detention facilities of varying size.

All of the witnesses interviewed by Human Rights Watch described detention conditions that would by themselves amount to ill-treatment and, in some cases, torture – extreme overcrowding, inadequate food, and routine denial of necessary medical assistance. The individuals who carried out or ordered crimes against humanity bear individual criminal responsibility under international law, as do those in a position of command whose subordinates committed  crimes that they were aware of or should have been aware of and failed to prevent or punish. This command responsibility would apply not only to the officials overseeing detention facilities, but also to the heads of intelligence agencies, members of government, and the head of state, President Bashar al-Assad.

Because Syria has not ratified the Rome Statute, which created the ICC, the court will only have jurisdiction if the UN Security Council adopts a resolution referring the situation in Syria to the court. Russia and China have previously blocked Security Council efforts to push for accountability. 

“The reach and inhumanity of this network of torture centers are truly horrific,” Solvang said. “Russia should not be holding its protective hand over the people who are responsible for this.”
